TOKYO (WTVA) -- Toyota Motor Corp. has announced that its profit for the first quart of the fiscal year nearly doubled from one year ago.

The automaker says profits from the April through June quarter rose to $5.6 billion.

Toyota says it marked strong sales in the key U.S. market while growing in some emerging markets.

In 2012, Toyota took the title of the world's top automaker in global vehicle sales from general motors.
