DEARBORN, Mich. (WTVA) -- Severstal North America has recently joined two of the most renowned sustainability organizations in operations and sourcing, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and the Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative (CFSI).

This effort allows Severstal to take its existing purchasing practices to the next level and become an industry leader in
transparent and sustainable sourcing standards.

“We are committed to the highest ethical, social and environmental standards in all areas of our sourcing value chain,” said Gerrit Reepmeyer, Vice President, Procurement, Severstal North America.  “We believe that only a sustainable and responsible approach to operating practices can create long term value for our customers.”

Severstal’s sustainable sourcing standards for its suppliers focus on three key areas:

Safe and healthy working conditions: Follow highest safety standards and comply with international human rights laws.

High environmental standards: Foster environmental protection and manage resources responsibly.

Strong business ethics: Facilitate integrity, diversity and non-discrimination, and ensure conflict-free sourcing.

To uphold this approach, Severstal is requesting all suppliers to meet these same high standards.
